Lets talk props, for me, personally, I always think less is more especially when it comes to photography. I love to add a little detail to make the image stand out, but not too much to draw your eye away from the main subject, which of course is YOU!
So to ensure success, here are a few ideas and tips for you to think about before your session, and of course we can discuss any ideas you may have in the creative planning process.
Make it meaningful.
Do you have anything that means the absolute world to you, that you would want to incorporate in to your shoot? A favourite teddy that your child never lets go of, a musical instrument that you treasure or even a gift from a loved one? Using an item like this brings meaning to your pictures that you will treasure for a lifetime.

Props with a purpose.
This is especially great for family sessions as it will give your children something to keep them occupied throughout your session.
Use what you have.
Take advantage of what's around you, leaves in autumn look beautiful for any session, or blossom trees in the spring. They make stunning backdrops and even props to play around with. Definitely don't let these things go to waste.
Be realistic.
It is so easy to go wild when thinking of a theme for your shoot, especially if its a styled shoot. However you should decide on one that you can actually find props for.
For example, if you want to use seasonal props, try to source them in that season as they will be easier to find, or find a prop first and then style everything else around that.
Size matters.
There are some larger props that work really well in photos such as a car, or a styled set. However, there are some larger props that can take away from the beauty of the photograph altogether, so make sure that whatever you choose its going to enhance the photo and not be a distraction in it.

Where to buy props.
My absolute favourite place to go for props or even ideas in general for photography sessions are charity shops, they are amazing for finding little treasures. They literally have everything you could ever think of, you just have to dig!
Whenever I'm having a creative block I head down to my local charity shop and see what catches my eye! Whether its an item of clothing, a hat or even a vintage camera, they are defiantly not short on random items!
Try it for yourself you wont be disappointed!
Remember, using props can be an amazing addition to your sessions, but do not let it become the main focus, because that is of course YOU!
See you in the next blog!
